This is a tragedy

From Tampa news:

In August of 2005, Willie Nelson Jr. had back surgery at Tampa General Hospital. According to a lawsuit Nelson is filing, he has permanently lost his vision as a result of the 10-hour operation.

This was a Back Surgery.

Ease into a comfortable training practice

Humans are truly, as the Good Book says, "Fearfully and wonderfully made". However, many of us do not fully appreciate this fact. I try in my practice to convey to my patients that their bodies are "living, natural systems" much like a garden. The best way to garden is to work with nature by following natural principles. Our bodies are not "Nails" and exercise, especially Rehabilitation, is not the "hammer".

How can we continue to exercise while preserving our joints, delaying or avoiding the need of joint replacement as long as possible? Begin your exercise episodes by avoiding fast speeds or high impact until after the muscles are warmed up and the synovial tissues lining the joints have had time to be progressively, gradually stimulated to secrete synovial fluid into the joint spaces to act as both a lubricant and shock absorbing fluid. Wear shock absorbing shoes appropriate to your sport's activity. Choose exercise surfaces that provide further shock absorption such as wood flooring, grass, sand, or soft dirt, avoid pavement or hard packed dirt. Choose low impact sports or exercise whenever possible. See you out there in the fresh air!
